What is a Super Premium dog food?

It is more expensive to formulate as it has different ingredient inclusion levels than more standard types of dog foods.

In the Europa food range, we inform you that our recipe is “Rich in Chicken and Rice” or “Rich in Lamb and Rice” etc - we say this because our food contains a minimum of 26% of both ingredients.

Please also bear in mind, there are certain dog foods on the market that contain very high levels of protein i.e. over 80%. Please remember, that your dog requires a balanced diet, and sometimes, an excessive amount of one food type might not be to the benefit of your dog.

At Europa we use perceived “higher quality” ingredients e.g. rice and potato rather than wheat/soya/meat and bone meal.

The Europa dog food range is Super Premium and both meets and exceeds all of the above criteria.

What does Hypoallergenic mean?

EVERY FOOD HAS THE ABILITY TO CAUSE A FOOD ALLERGY!

  • The easiest way to think about hypoallergenic dog foods is that they contain ingredients that are better suited to a dog’s natural digestive system and are designed to address food allergies.
  • Allergy to one or more of the ingredients can cause health problems i.e. itchy skin, hot spots, hair loss, upset stomach as well as episodes of diarrhoea and vomiting.
  • A manufacturer must qualify how their dog food is hypoallergenic. At Europa, we do this by stating that our entire Europa Super Premium dog food range is “formulated without wheat and wheat gluten”.

The Europa Super Premium dog food range is hypoallergenic.

Fish

Oils & Fats

Oils and Fats provide Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) (including both Omega 3 & Omega 6) and energy.

Essential fatty acids cannot be manufactured by the body and need to be supplied in the diet.

Their inclusion in your dog’s food helps to promote:

  • Healthy looking Skin and Coat
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of both the brain and eyes
  • Reproduction and proper Kidney Function

The Europa Super Premium dog food range contains the optimal amount of both Omega 3 and Omega 6 to promote your dog’s health and wellbeing.

Vegetables

Animal Protein vs Plant Protein

Meat is the most ideal source of protein for dogs as it is highly digestible and the most complete. However, it is important to balance the amino acids from animal, plant and pure amino acids to ensure your dog’s health

Non – essential amino acids are readily available from plant proteins.

Europa believes that to maintain the optimal diet for your dog, the dog food must contain a healthy balance between both meat and plant protein. The Europa Super Premium dog food range achieves the optimal balance of both meat and plant protein with a view to promoting your dog’s health and wellbeing.

What is the ideal composition of a dog’s diet?

The Europa Super Premium dog food range takes into account the very latest research into canine nutrition, ensuring your dog has access to the very finest, well balanced and flavoursome food on the market today.

Protein

Functional Ingredients

Below you will see a list of other ingredients included in the Europa Super Premium range of dog food and the reasons why we we have chosen to add it to our recipe.

  • Mannanoligosaccharides (Pre-biotic MOS)
  • MOS – Widely associated with gastro-intestinal health and performance.

It is believed to help reduce pathogenic or disease producing bacteria in the intestine (by binding bacteria) plus it enhances the absorption and utilisation of nutrients from the intestine.

  • Fructooligosaccharides (Pre-biotic FOS)

FOS – Beneficially affects your dog by acting as a food source for beneficial micro-organisms and selectively stimulating growth and/or activity of these along the digestive tract, improving your dog’s health.

  • It acts as an alternative sweetener.
  • It is found naturally in artichoke, burdock, chicory, leeks, onions and asparagus.
  • Glucosamine, Chondroitin & Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)

Glucosamine provides building blocks to synthesise new joint cartilage and together with Chondroitin and MSM, they promote mobility, longevity and health of the joints. They have been shown to promote the maintenance of connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and cartilage.

  • Yucca Schidigera Extract

Aids digestion. It has also been found to help to clean the gut, on the surface and deep around the villi. It also helps to reduce faecal odours!

  • Pre-Biotics

Used to improve gastrointestinal health (the stomach), energy levels and performance – such pre-biotics include :

  • MOS- Mannanoligosaccharies - Obtained from the yeast cell walls of Saccharomyces cervevisiae.
  • FOS – Fructooligosaccharides - used as an alternative sweetener and found naturally in artichoke, burdock, chicory, leeks, onions, and asparagus.

The Europa Super Premium dog food range includes a measured quantity of each of these functional ingredients to assist in maintaining your dog’s optimum health.

Minerals

Macrominerals & Microminerals

Below you will see a list of commonly heard minerals, however, possibly for the first time, you will see why they have been added to the Europa Super Premium dog food range together with the benefits they have for your beloved four-pawed friend.

  • Calcium – added for bone mineralization, cardiac function, muscle contraction, and digestive system function.
  • Chlorine - function of numerous cellular pumps and is used in the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
  • Magnesium – added for bone mineralization, functioning of ATP - ATP in the cell has magnesium bound to the phosphates.
  • Sodium – electrolyte, regulation of ATP-dependent channels with potassium. These channels are referred to as Na+/K+-ATPases and their primary function is in the transmission of nerve impulses in the brain.
  • Phosphorous - electrolyte acting as a significant buffer in the blood. Phosphate is also required for bone mineralization, and is necessary for energy utilization.
  • Potassium – electrolyte, involved in the regulation of ATP-dependent channels along with sodium. These channels are referred to as Na+/K+-ATPases and their primary function is in the transmission of nerve impulses in the brain.
  • Copper - formation of red bloods cells, synthesis of haemoglobin, formation of bone, energy production, wound healing, taste sensation, skin and hair colour, processing of collagen – important in skin, bone, and connective tissue production.
  • Iodine - synthesis of the thyroid hormones.
  • Iron – transport of oxygen - Coordinates the oxygen molecule so that it can be transported from the lungs to the tissues.
  • Manganese - protein and fat metabolism -promotes a healthy nervous system, necessary for digestive function, bone growth, and immune function.
  • Molybdenum is primarily involved as a co-factor in several oxidases.
  • Selenium – involved in protein synthesis.
  • Zinc -co-factor in over 300 different enzymes-involved in a wide variety of biochemical processes. Plays a role in regulation of blood glucose levels via insulin action. Zinc also promotes wound healing, regulates immune function, serves as a co-factor for numerous antioxidant enzymes, and is necessary for protein synthesis and the processing of collagen.

Europa Super Premium dog food range includes a precise amount of each of these Macrominerals and Microminerals to assist in promoting and maintaining your dog’s health.
